Russians dominate spammer top ten
Half of ten worst spammers from former USSR.
This week's list of the top ten 'worst spammers and spam gangs', released by spam fighters Spamhaus, is
dominated by eastern Europeans, with a mysterious Ukranian at the top of the list and four Russians further down.
According to Spamhaus' Register of Known Spam Operations (ROKSO), the top spammer bombarding inboxes at
the moment is a Ukranian who goes under many aliases, mostly variants of Alex or Alexey. His operation includes a
'massive botnet' and a 'child-porn spam ring.' Also on the list are four Russians, giving eastern Europe a dominant
position in the rankings. Two US citizens also appear, including the notorious Michael Lindsay, along with single
representatives of Canada, Hong Kong and Israel.
Spamhaus also states that a hard core of 200 'professional spam gangs' are behind 80% of spam targeting
users in North America and Europe. The list, with further details on each spammer available, can be found
