McAfee tops for client security

Analyst firm rates industry heavyweights.

Analyst firm Forrester has released a report on 'Client Security Suites', naming McAfee as the leading brand in the field.

Symantec and Sophos are both described as 'viable alternatives', but lack some features, including network access control and administration tools, needed to keep up with McAfee's comprehensive offerings, which Forrester expects to continue leading the way. Panda and F-Secure have good technology, but apparently lack the vision and resources to keep up with the larger players.

Panda is said to be doing well in the smaller business arena, and its 'strong architecture' should bring success in future, while F-Secure offers 'a little bit of everything'. Kaspersky is labelled 'a leading anti-malware vendor', while Trend Micro's firewall lacks functionality and CA is playing catch-up.

A full summary of the report is here, with links to further detail on individual vendors and the chance to buy the full report, for a mere $995.
