SEO poisoning

Technique used to make malicious websites appear at or near the top of search engine rankings

Search engine optimization (SEO) is a technique used to increase the chances of a website appearing at or near the top of search engine rankings for relevant queries - with the aim of increasing the number of visits to the website.

SEO poisoning uses the same techniques, but attempts to increase the ranking of sites serving malware and/or spamvertised products.

SEO poisoning occurs regularly for queries related to 'hot' events, news topics or illegal activities.
