Registry

Database of settings in Windows operating systems

The Windows registry is a core part of all Windows operating systems, a central database that records information about the system, its hardware and most installed software.

The information includes individual settings and options relating to installed applications, and most malware will make some changes to some parts of the registry, including adding settings that cause the malware to be launched each time the machine is started, concealing its activities and blocking access to certain data and options.
