Joke programs are programs that carry out some sort of practical joke, often masquerading as malware - they may pop up a message box claiming to be deleting precious files or formatting a hard drive, while actually taking no action at all.
Many security products detect, or are capable of detecting, many such programs to minimise their nuisance value to their usually unamused victims.
