EICAR test file

Special file used to test operation of anti-malware products

The EICAR test file is a small, simple file which is intended to be used to verify that anti-malware software is functioning correctly. While not containing any dangerous or malicious code, the file should be detected by all anti-malware products.

The EICAR test file was developed jointly by EICAR and CARO and is available from the EICAR website. It contains only human-readable characters and so can easily be created manually by typing in the correct string of characters.
