AV software revenues increase.

Anti-virus software revenues reached $4 billion worldwide last year - an increase of 13.6% on the previous year - according to industry analyst Gartner. The report revealed that, in 2005, enterprise and consumer sales accounted for 51.5% and 48.5% of revenues respectively, and that the top three vendors in terms of market share were (as ever) Symantec (53.6%), McAfee (18.8%) and Trend Micro (13.8%). VB waits with interest to discover what impact Microsoft's entry into the anti-virus market will have on the figures for 2006/2007.

The announcement of the test brought a few surprises, as several regulars opted to skip this one, but the majority of veteran competitors took part as usual, along with several newer faces, many of whom look set to join the ranks of our regulars.
