Microsoft throws its weight around against spammers
Microsoft has filed eight new lawsuits against spammers. All of the suits allege spoofing and falsifying of domain names.
While most of the suits target unnamed defendants, two target specific entities: Florida company PinPoint Media, and prolific spammer John Hites, who is listed on Spamhaus's Register of Known Spam Operations (ROKSO). The action against Hites and related companies alleges that he used hijacked computers and deceptive subject lines.
To date, Microsoft has filed 80 spam-related suits worldwide, with 51 US-based cases. According to the company's senior attorney, 11 of the 51 US-based cases have been resolved - with four settlements, two bankruptcies and five judgments totaling $47m.
