Security dominates software sales charts

AV, IS and anti-spyware products represent nine of last month's top 20 bestsellers.

Sales of security products remain very strong despite economic conditions, according to market research organisation NPD, whose sales figures for September show nine of the top 20 selling products were security-related. The rest of the chart is made up of games and office software.

The top three sellers were evolution game Spore, the home-user edition of Microsoft's Office 2007, and MMORPG Warhammer Online. The next three places were taken by security offerings from Trend Micro, Webroot and Symantec, with another six slots further down the list also security products, including two more Norton variants, another one each from Trend and Webroot, as well as McAfee's VirusScan and Microsoft's OneCare.

No details of exact sales figures were made available. The full listing is carried by gaming site Shacknews here.
