Microsoft details 'Stirling' integrated suite
Comprehensive security product promised in next-gen Forefront.
Microsoft, whose Forefront corporate anti-malware system is the latest step in a continuing onslaught
on the security market, has unveiled early details of the next step in its development, a broad and integrated
system code-named 'Stirling'.
The 'Stirling' project, due to be revealed in an early beta later this year, promises a wide range of security
measures bundled together, including firewalls, NAC and IPS alongside virus, trojan and spyware detection and
protection at desktop, server and gateway levels. It is described as including 'next-generation versions of
Forefront Client Security, Server Security and Edge Security and Access solutions, plus a unified management
console'.
The product will cement Microsoft's moves to provide a full corporate range to compete with those offered
by the established players in the market, currently led by Symantec, McAfee and Trend Micro,
with Sophos, Panda, F-Secure and CA close behind (according to last year's
Gartner study.
