The privately held Cybertrust provides identity management, vulnerability and threat management services; and professional services, including forensics and risk analysis. Verizon plans to use the acquisition to extend its own security portfolio and expand its reach globally.

ICSA Labs, one of the industry's better known product certification and testing centres, is currently an independent division of Cybertrust and once the acquisition has completed will also fall under the Verizon umbrella.

The purchase - for which financial details were not disclosed - is expected to complete in the next two to three months.
