March Patch Tuesday cancelled
MS announces no security patches this month.
With several known vulnerabilities still affecting Windows and other products, Microsoft has announced
that there will be no security fixes released next week, with the monthly Patch Tuesday release limited to
some non-security-related updates and additions to the Malicious Software Removal Tool.
It has been speculated that the move may be intended to ensure systems administrators have ample time to deal with issues
relating to changes in daylight saving hours in the US, dubbed a 'mini Y2K' after numerous predicitons of problems
with software caused by the adjustments the system. Due to new energy regulations introduced in 2005, Daylight Saving Time (DST)
has been extended by four weeks and will start on March 11th this year - a move which seems to have taken many by
surprise.
It will be the first time since September 2005 that no security fixes have been released on Patch Tuesday.
