Barclays phish spammed widely
64% of recent phishes targeting global brand.
Reports from Panda Software warn of a major phishing campaign targeting users of Barclays online
banking, causing a 30% rise in phishes hitting their spam traps.
At least 61 separate variants of a spoof email have been seen by spam labs, all of them trying to trick
Barclays customers into handing over valuable private data, and the emails point to several different web
addresses.
'Phishers are upping the scale of their attacks in hopes of hitting the inboxes of more gullible victims,' said John
Hawes, Technical Consultant at Virus Bulletin. 'This kind of bombardment is sure to trick a few unwary readers out of
their hard-earned cash. People really need to learn not to fall for this kind of thing, and to ignore any email asking
for their personal data.'
More detail in the campaign, including screenshots, is available from
Panda labs.
