Conspiracy warning spam points to exploit web page.
A spam campaign is directing Australian readers to a faked news site designed to drop a trojan. The initial mails carry a stark warning that Australian banks are due to close, and a link appearing to take them to the NEWS.com.au website.
Using some clever reverse psychology, the email also advises readers not to enter any private information, in an attempt to calm any fears of phishing. However, the link leads to a spoofed version of the site, from where a downloader trojan is installed in a drive-by download and proceeds to gather data from the compromised machine.
Warnings have been issued by various banks, as well as an alert from the genuine NEWS.com.au site.
